Five Years of Sophia

Happy Birthday to my firstborn! I cannot believe it has been 5 years ... even harder to believe I am a parent to a five year old!!! This has been such a fun journey.

Although beyond thrilled to have a new baby, you were such a challenge to Daddy and me as a newborn. I think the books described your temperament as "high intensity," and you definitely fit the bill. You had reflux, you kept us up all hours of the night, you were very fussy and clingy, you wanted things just right and if they didn't go your way, you let everyone know! Towards the end of your first year you outgrew your reflux and we really enjoyed watching you crawl and take your first steps and start to explore your world.

As a toddler you gave us a run for our money and definitely pushed the limits. I remember two hour long temper tantrums because you refused to stand in the corner after disobeying. Yet you were such a curious, smart child too and we loved watching learn and grow.

Finally around 4 years old you started settling into yourself and really mellowed out! Now we can say that you are a very compassionate, nurturing friend that everyone loves to be around. You are polite and although you can be shy at times, you have an ease with others that tends to put them at ease too. You are determined to learn to read and we have watched you teach yourself over the past year - you are almost there! Preschool has been a new adventure this year and one that you embraced and a place that you have blossomed. You're Mommy's helper - always anticipating the needs of your newborn brother, asking if you can help dust or set the table, and you are so responsible about keeping your room organized and clean. You are also adored by your little sister and in turn you are always willing to play with her (until she destroys something!) :) . You have a sweet disposition and we truly enjoy spending time with you - reading, playing games, and just talking.
