I am in the midst of reading a phenomenal book. I started it yesterday, and expect to finish it today. It's just that good.
Anyways, I looked it up on amazon.com because I seriously want to order one for everyone I know. I always love reading the ratings given for books and was surprised to see that the book received 5 stars across the board, except for two people who gave it 4 stars.
The title of one review: "Honest and Open, but a little too Godly." The reviewer goes on to note that "The only thing I found a little too tiresome was the constant reference to Jesus."
I laughed out loud and almost spit out my coffee.
What a twisted view of Christianity. And of Jesus. As if He can be removed. Put away. Separated from every day. Put into a box and taken out when convenient or necessary.
My pastor talked about this on Sunday. "A distinction between the sacred and the spiritual is artificial. All of life is spiritual and to separate the two creates a chasm between us and God." (Joe Duke)
May my everyday life be so intertwined with my faith that one cannot distinguish between the two. May I always interpret the events of my day through the lens of Jesus. May He overflow from the depths of my being and pour into everything I do - whether it's watching a sunset or scrubbing crayon from the walls.
So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Romans 12:1 (The Message)
